Board of Management

Governance

CTHA is a non-profit community based organisation incorporated as an association, and is managed by a volunteer board of management.

The business and operations of the association are managed and controlled by a centralised governance model board of management. Nine members are appointed to the board by a general meeting of members of the association – four (4) one year, and five (5) the next.

The nine directors have demonstrated skill and/or experience in relation to a number of selection criteria. Tenants are encouraged to nominate to the board of management but must also meet the selection criteria.

The Board of Management is focused on the ‘big picture’ with effective mechanisms for appropriate local and community input through its planning processes. Performance monitoring and reporting to government is in accordance with the relevant funding agreements under which funding is received.

The association has developed policies and procedures for regular internal monitoring and standard reporting formats are used to keep the board and membership informed.

I applied to join the CTHA Board of Management because I consider community housing to be a key aspect of building a civil society. Access to appropriate, affordable and safe housing is essential to the health and wellbeing of everyone not just those who can afford it.

As a member of the CTHA board, I hope to make a contribution not just to the maintenance of CTHA business but also to its future direction and growth.
I have lived near Bathurst for 23 years and am a partner in a Sydney-based marketing research business.
I have been a board member of a residential college, a hospital/aged care facility and am currently a member of the board of the Catholic Development Fund for the Diocese of Bathurst.

I applied to become a Director in 2006 as I felt that my qualifications and general life experience would be useful to the Central Tablelands Housing Association Board. For the last 23 years, I have been involved in the provision of legal service to the people of the Rylstone, Kandos and Mudgee areas.

I strongly support the provision of community housing, especially for those disad-vantaged in their access to housing. I have been involved in both Community and Regional Boards for over 25 years.

I am well acquainted with the role of community organisations and I have been closely involved in health administration for over 25 years. I became a member of the former Rylstone District Hospital Board in 1977 and was appointed Chairperson in 1988.

In 1993, I became of member of the Inaugural Evans Health Board, comprising of over 7 hospitals in the Central West and I am currently President of the Rylstone Kandos Aged and Disabled Hostel.

I was encouraged to apply as Wellington did not have any representation on the CTHA Board and the fact that there were no Aboriginal Board members was another contributing factor.

I also thought my Aboriginal heritage could benefit and support Indigenous clients accessing housing across the CTHA catchment area.

I am not an expert in any discipline or area though my professional and personal work and social experiences provide me with a vast array of knowledge and information which can assist community based organisations such as the CTHA.

My reasons for joining CTHA and becoming a Director.

I had retired and relocated to Mudgee. I was already heavily involved with several not for profit organizations in Mudgee.

I was aware of the need for affordable housing in the district and had been made aware of the excellent work being carried out in this area by CTHA.

I felt that I had the necessary management and financial skills and building maintenance experience to be able to make a worthwhile contribution to the Board.

I have been a member of CTHA Board of Management since December 2001.

I joined the board as I believe everyone has the right to access quality housing, and place one can call home. Being part of community housing allows me to assist people living in our community to build the foundations of life around their home.

This is an essential component for a strong community and a sense of belonging.
